Class: The Beginner's Guide to Ayurvedic Home Remedies: Ancient Healing for Modern Life

Longtime Ayurvedic practitioner and Pure Indian Foods lover Susan Weis-Bohlen has just released her third book on Ayurveda. The Beginner's Guide to Ayurvedic Home Remedies: Ancient Healing for Modern Life, offers a three-tiered plan for dealing with common ailments, health issues, and everyday challenges. Through food, lifestyle changes, and apothecary recommendations, Susan details how to prevent, treat and change the course of problems relating to aging, seasonal allergies, skin conditions, GI disturbances and more. Using the premise that food is medicine, Susan makes suggestions based on your dosha (there is a great dosha quiz in the book to help you determine your mind-body type), using many techniques to restore balance and harmony to mind and body. Who is Susan Weis-Bohlen?

Susan is a certified Gateless writing facilitator, Ayurvedic consultant, meditation teacher and retreat leader. Alana is back to make Body-Boost Ashwagandha Moon Milk, a soothing, delicious milk-based hot beverage that has its roots in the healing tradition of Ayurveda. It’s useful for deep relaxation and sound rest, and is often taken at bed-time to calm stress and anxiety. Darjeeling Green Tea is high in antioxidants; it has a lighter, more delicate, vegetal flavor than black tea and can be enjoyed on its own or alongside light desserts, fish, rice, and cheeses. It contains a small caffeine, so it’s best consumed in the morning or early afternoon.

Shilpa Sankaran, founder of Kosa Ayurvedic Spa, is joined by her mother Lalita and Kosa Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Tanya Anderson, in this engaging demonstration of a favorite traditional and healing Indian beverage, Bael Sharbat. This popular drink is served in many Indian households to cool, calm and refresh during the hot summer months. It's sweet and sour qualities pacify Pitta dosha and is enjoyed by all ages. We have added some basic elements to customize it for the mid-season between summer and fall, creating a more warming baseline. The demonstration will include how to make the beverage and basic principles of the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.
